Activities for the First Day of Pre K

Make the first day of school memorable and fun for each child

Help children to know the pre-k classroom- Take them on a journey around the room, stopping in each center, discussing the materials that are there.

Make a first day of school picture to take home- Using crayons have them draw a picture with their favorite colors and then tell you about it as you write the story on the back.

Choose your favorite name game and "get to know you" movement activities. I love the Friendship Walk, Nimble Names and the Beanbag Name Game. Click on the link for details.

Read a comforting book- such as the Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. Put a heart sticker on each child's hand to remind them that they are loved. This helps ease separation anxiety.

Sing together- A great song for the first day is The More We Get Together. Ask each child what they like to do and  substitute what they like to do for "Get" in the song.
