The Importance of Connection

It has been a wonderful discovery to plan my new workshop: The Challenging Child! What keeps coming up in my research is the importance of the connection between child and student.

This connection is essential in promoting  a calm,  productive classroom.
Here are some ideas that will help foster a positive connection.
  • Greet children at the door by getting down to their level and having a short conversation to “check in”.
  • When children exhibit challenging behavior- be a detective, find out the students motivation for the behavior and let that guide your solution.
  • Praise your students for small accomplishments- a moment of self control, trying something new, waiting for a turn, hard work, etc.

How do you connect?
